Free Picot Shawlette Pattern 🧶

Free Picot Shawlette Pattern 🧶

I was so excited when our first delivery of the Koigu Pencil Boxes arrived that I immediately wanted to adapt our popular Hayworth Shawl Pattern to suit them!

It turned out to be the perfect match. Simply knit one mini skein at a time, following the relaxing garter stitch and eyelet lace pattern. When a skein runs out, change to the next colour and continue until you've used them all, then finish with a delicate picot bind off using the final mini skein.

There's no stitch counting, no yarn chicken—just the simple pleasure of watching the colours unfold as you knit, ending with a beautiful, colourful shawlette.

Yarn Used

This sample was knitted using the Koigu Pencil Boxes—a curated collection of 4ply hand-dyed mini skeins designed to make choosing colours effortless. They're also a wonderful way to create beautiful gradients or use up leftover yarn from your stash.

I've included the pattern below, so gather your needles, choose your favourite pencil box and enjoy! 🧶

Pattern Notes

This shawlette is worked from one point to the other with increases on one side and decreases on the other creating an asymmetric shape. Change colours whenever a mini skein runs out for a natural colour block effect, and substitute any number of garter stitch rows with the optional lace panel.

Optional Easy Lace Panel

Substitute any number of garter stitch rows with this simple lace pattern for a more textured and interesting knit.

Row 1 (RS): Sl1 purlwise wyif, k2tog, *yo, k2tog; repeat from * to last 3 stitches, k1, kfbf, k1. 1 stitch increased.

Row 2 (WS): Sl1 purlwise wyif, knit to end, knitting each yarn over as a stitch.

Repeat until you have one mini skein remaining.

Picot Bind Off

With the right side facing:

Step 1: Cable cast on 2 stitches, then bind off 4 stitches.

Step 2: One stitch will remain on the right-hand needle. Slip this stitch purlwise back onto the left-hand needle.

Repeat Steps 1 and 2 until all stitches have been bound off.

Break the yarn, leaving a 10 cm tail, and pull it through the final stitch to fasten off.

Weave in all ends and block if desired (we highly recommend blocking to open up and highlight the lacework).
