The Gathered Sweater – Final Wrap-Up & Free Pattern PDF

What a great few weeks this has been.

When we started The Gathered Sweater Project, the idea was simple: gather together those beautiful yarns we’ve collected over time and turn them into something completely unique.

And that is exactly what has happened.

I’ve loved watching your sweaters come to life — all the unexpected colour combinations, soft textures, treasured leftovers and yarns that had been waiting for the right project.

No two Gathered Sweaters look the same, and I think that’s what makes this project so special.

Some of you planned your colours carefully, some simply reached for the next yarn that felt right, and some discovered combinations you probably never would have put together otherwise.

That freedom has really been at the heart of this project.

The Gathered Sweater pattern was originally released over three weekly instalments, but I’ve now brought everything together into one complete PDF for you to save, print and keep.

The finished pattern includes all three sections:

• Neckline, German short rows and raglan yoke
• Separating the sleeves and knitting the body
• Sleeves, rolled cuffs, optional rolled neck and finishing

A Few Things We Learned Along the Way

One of the nicest things about this project has been seeing just how forgiving and adaptable it can be.

The Gathered Sweater was designed using light, lofty 12–14 ply yarns, but lighter yarns can also be held double or triple to create a similar fabric.

Mixing smooth, fluffy and textured yarns adds so much interest, and the varying fibres and metreages simply become part of the character of the finished sweater.

The biggest thing I would encourage is to try your sweater on as you go.

Because every yarn combination behaves a little differently, your own fabric may grow, soften or drop more than someone else’s. Trust the fabric in front of you rather than feeling you have to follow every measurement exactly.
