There are some knits that become part of your home—and the Essential Merino is one of them.

Originally released several years ago, this was one of our most-loved blanket kits. I still have several of the original blankets at home, and they are every bit as soft, comforting and useful today. So, with our beautiful Oi Merino returning very soon, it felt like the perfect time to bring the Essential back too.

Knitted in broad colour blocks with a simple combination of garter stitch and stocking stitch, this is an easy, soothing project with just enough variation to keep it interesting. The generous stretches of uncomplicated knitting make it lovely for beginners, returning knitters, or anyone wanting a project they can relax into.

Oi is our 100% merino yarn: soft against the skin, beautifully weighty and wonderfully warm. It creates a substantial blanket designed to be lived with, reached for and loved for many years. And scroll down to see beautiful in-progress photos by Debbie.

    Reacquainting myself with knitting

    I had not knitted for nearly 40 years. The essential blanket was a good place to start to reacquaint myself with knitting. It was a pleasure to knit and I have had some great compliments from family and friends on the finished blanket.
